Confessions of a Shopaholic

I confess. I’m a shopaholic.

And I’m sure there’s more of you out there too. Not only do I have a spending problem, but I don’t even feel bad about it. My bank account could run dry but I’d still add items to my cart for the moment I do get some money. It’s BAD. It’s just funny because it would seem so self explanatory: JUST STOP SHOPPING. But oh man, that’s a huge challenge for a huge shopaholic.

If you’re really good at saving your money and you’d like to read on about what goes through the mind of a crazy shopaholic, then this is the post for you. And if you’re just another shopaholic who wants to relate and not feel so bad about your spending habits, then you’re at the right place.

Coming from my own thoughts and experiences, I tend to have the mindset that it’s okay to buy that cute bag because I’ll get paid by the end of the week. I literally am that insane that I am truly imagining money in my account that isn’t even there yet. Sometimes I mix my payday weeks up and I don’t even get paid that week…Then I’m stuck being broke for the next two weeks.

But hey, at least I can be broke in style.

When I get bored, I tend to gravitate towards not only shopping malls but even just Target or Walmart. I pick up beauty supplies or random things that I THINK I need, but let’s be real, I really don’t. Being the shopaholic that I am, I’m always attracted to new products, and that sure plays a part in my unnecessary spending. You could see my eyes literally LIGHT UP when something is on sale. Even if the style isn’t that cute, the price tag sure is.

One thing I confess is that I find myself buying similar things that I already have in my closet. For instance, I have a plethora of black leggings. Why? Because I love leggings and I always feel like I can never have enough. Girls, I know you feel me on this one. Also, if there’s a certain style I like, I always end up getting things that are alike but in different colors. I don’t believe that nobody else has done this, so I don’t feel that guilty.

There are a few technicalities to being an avid spender. You buy so much, and the space becomes so little. I lose my favorite shirt in my ginormous pile of other clothes that I have yet to wear. Guess that means I’ve got to go buy a new one. Oops. There are only certain amounts of outfits someone can wear in a week and my closet seems to imply that I can wear 12 outfits a day, everyday.

I confess that when I feel like I haven’t gone shopping in a while, I have the mindset that I HAVE to go shop. And most of the time, I don’t feel guilty for thinking that way because I haven’t been swiping my card! You may be wondering, “Sophia, why don’t you just STOP SHOPPING!!” Well, sweetheart, shopping is like my hobby. To be honest with you, it relieves stress and makes me happy. (I must be stressed out a lot then). I enjoy treating myself and I genuinely just have fun buying new things. So don’t blame me too much for wanting to treat myself, even if it’s everyday, haha.

Look, you might be saying to yourself, Wow this girl is NUTS. But trust me, honey, I know there’s a lot of you out there that can relate. I KNOW I’m a shopaholic, and at times, I notice it gets out of hand, but I love to shop my heart out, and I will continue to work hard so that I CAN keep doing something that I love. I wouldn’t call it a problem, I’d call it a solution to all my problems.

Ignite your spark,

Thanks for reading, xoxo.
