We’ve all been there before. We want to hit the gym and achieve a rocking’ bod for ourselves. Sometimes though, it’s easier said than done. We get ourselves hyped for about a week and then we end up losing that fitness streak. Then, we’re back to square one. Well, here’s a few tips and tricks to kick start your fitness journey and to keep it going!
1. Join A Gym
Even if you feel like you won’t be utilizing any of the machines and think that an at home workout will be sufficient, think again. Working out at home can be convenient, but it’s not always practical. There’s more distractions at home that can slow your workout down and even just stop it altogether. Being at a gym can help you focus on just you and your workout. Plus, being surrounded by other people who are getting fit, can push you to work harder.
2. Get The Right Workout Clothes
I firmly believe in the saying, “Look good, feel good”. It’s like when you’ve bought a brand-spankin new outfit for a night out and you just feel like the hottest person out there. It boosts your confidence and it helps you enjoy your night out! Same thing goes at the gym. Wear workout clothes that make you feel good, and you’re going to find yourself pushing yourself more and more. I personally love wearing cute leggings, here’s a link to my current favorite pair of leggings! Queenie Ke Legging
3. Start Small
Don’t give yourself more than you can carry. Start small and set realistic goals for yourself. What are YOUR goals, and how are your going to get there. You’ll feel discouraged if you are expecting to gain a 6 pack after doing one day of ab workouts. Be realistic, and you won’t set yourself up for disappointment. I, for one, am not a very patient person and I would want to see results straight away. But, I’ve learned that it’s a working progress, and you just have to keep reminding yourself that as long as you keep working everyday, you’re one step closer to your goal.
4. Write Down A Fitness Plan
When you have no idea what you’re going to do or how you’re going to do it, you end up lost in the dust. Preplan your workout for the week, and write down the exercises you want to accomplish and how many sets and reps to do. It’ll make it easier for you to just hit the gym and get on your grind! For example, if it’s leg day on Monday, here’s a few of my favorite workouts:
- 4 x 10 hip thrusts
- 4 x 10 lunges
- 3 x 12 weighted squats
- 4 x 10 hip abductors, super set 4 x 10 hip adductors
5. Make Time For The Gym
I know this may seem obvious, but if you’ve got a busy schedule, you’ll end up forgetting to workout, or you’ll just not even feel like going. Set a time specifically for the gym and give yourself NO excuses. You’ve set goals for your fitness lifestyle and you’re only doing yourself the disfavor if you don’t initiate. I’ve been going to the gym consistently, and I try my best to always get a workout in. I’m not a crazy body builder, but I’ve slowly achieved the goals that I set for myself.
6. Start Eating Right
It’s harder to gain muscle and definition if your body isn’t getting the right nutrients. I’m not saying to just eat salads 24/7, but to just make healthier choices. If you’re eating straight junk, you’re only going to have energy for a short amount of time. And, trust me, you’re going to need energy to push yourself in the gym. Eat energy boosting foods, such as: bananas, brown rice, sweet potatoes. Healthy doesn’t always mean not tasty. There are countless ways to customize healthy food to your liking, you just gotta experiment!
So, those are just a few ways to kick start your fitness journey. Turn those thoughts of getting fit into actions and STICK WITH IT! Push yourself harder everyday and you’ll see how much of a difference it can make. You can do it, I believe in you!
